The group of Djoser leave at 5am, not very quietly. After our breakfast and repairing the battery connections of our car (yep, salt takes its toll) we drive to Isla Pescado. This island has the form of half a fish, but the right conditions of water- or air reflections can magically transform this island into a 'whole' fish. Before arriving there we make an extra stop to fish some salt crystals from ice-cold water. Seems that ground water only sit some centimeters under the salt surface. Nature continues to surprise us.
On Isla Pescado (also called Cactus Island) we walk between the ancient cactuses to reach the top of the island and have a superb view over the lake. Also the presence of lava and coral is a strange twist of nature. And who thought that on the dry sand in the middle of the salty plains, no life would be possible has it wrong: we witness a (long tailed Andes-) rabbit jumping around. Shame that the construction of an information center disturbs the silence.
After the walk we drive further to the other side of the lake. Between grazing lama's and low-flying flamingos (photo-photo-photo-film-photo-...) we have a deliciously diner. Afterwards we make a walk along the lake through abandon villages. We also get explanation from our Bolivian guide concerning local uses and habits. Both the acient culture, and the Christian habits continue here (together).
Two jeeps return earlier to Jirira where we spend the night in converted farm stable. The third jeep stays a bit longer (to wait for the last hikers), but this group experiences a superb sunset. We must now admit that we will never see such a sunset in Belgium, never.
The evening meal is served in one of small stables. Small but very cozy: hamburger with broccoli and pasta, and tea afterwards.
People who want take a shower experience an extra adventure. But here we will not go in too much details.
